Create Your Own Infant Oral Health Program "Flip Charts"

An Infant Oral Health Program can now be started by any dental or health clinic. The aim of an Infant Oral Health Program is to prevent early childhood caries and its destructive effects.

A child's first dental visit should take place around the age of 12 months, but no later that 6 months after the eruption of the first tooth.

At the first dental visit, the dentist needs to:
1. provide an assessment of the child's dental caries risk,
2. provide anticipatory guidance and information to the parents,
3. provide an initial oral and dental exam,
4. provide oral hygiene and brushing instructions,
5. provide healthy-diet counseling,
6. apply a protective fluoride varnish on the infant's teeth.

A series of reference charts is now available to dental and health practitioners, so that they will know how to start such a program. These "flip charts" clearly show what to do at baby's first dental visit, and at the periodic oral health visits thereafter.

There are six basic pages that need to be printed-out so you can make your own reference charts. Just click on the following links:
1. 6 Steps For Baby's First Dental Visit
2. Techniques For Protecting Your Baby's Teeth
3. Caries Risk Assessment Tool (CAT)
4. Anticipatory Guidance Schedule
5. Proper Brushing Diagram
6. Food Pyramid Chart

These "flip charts" can then be printed, laminated, connected by a ring, and referred-to every day in your clinic.

Just click on Picture of the Flip Charts to see the final product!
